Guitar Music With Chords - How to Tug at the Heart Strings

October 28th, 2008 by tommyla3

How do you hold the guitar correctly? If you’re holding the guitar in the right way, the thickest guitar string or the 6th string will be closest to your chest, and the thinnest string or the 1st string will be closest to your feet. You’ll be sitting on a chair without an armrest and with a good straight back for support. Now there is the fretting hand and the picking hand, for a right hander the fretting hand is the left hand. With this hand hold the neck of your guitar, and practice holding down notes with your fingers. You can strum the guitar with your picking hand.

Some of you may think learning the guitar is a difficult task. But there have been guitar greats who started out knowing only the basic chords, and worked themselves into becoming musical geniuses that audiences love and admire the world over. If you wish to learn, first, it’s important to be very interested in music, it would certainly help to have an ear for music. You’ve got to have huge amounts of patience and you must practice, practice and practice. Then instead of people running helter-skelter when they listen to your music and you being confined to the four walls of your room, you’ll soon have a loving audience!

Among the female guitar greats are Bonnie Rait, Carol Kaye, Joan Baez, Emily Remler, Jennifer Battern, Joni Mitchell, Lita Ford, Mary Osbourne, Melissa Etheridge, Phoebe Snow, Sheryl Crow and Tracy Chapman.

So how do you prepare to learn this beautiful instrument? Remember it requires a great amount of arm strength and physical dexterity to learn the instrument. Not just that, your fingers will hurt as you start playing, they may even develop calluses. But with regular practice the pain will go away. Keep your finger nails short, as that will enable you to hold down the notes more easily and your music will sound better.

Guitar Music With Chords - How to Tug at the Heart Strings

Learning To Play Chords

Andres Sergovia, Charlie Christian, Chet Atkins, Derek Bailey, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, John McLaughlin, Les Paul, Pat Mentheny, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Sonny Sharrock are superb male guitar players of the past and present times.

Practice Makes Perfect!

Chords are a combination of notes which are played to create an effect of a fuller sound. Usually a chord involves playing at least three notes together along with strumming the guitar strings.

Holding The Guitar Correctly

Here are some of the evergreen male and female guitar players. We hope you enjoy playing your favorite guitarists.

Here are the Major chords found in most western music that you hear. They are Major C, Major A, Major G, Major E, and Major D. They require an excellent muscle memory to become perfect at them. A trick to learning the chord patterns is to switch between chords while practicing, till your playing becomes fluent. It’s quite like learning a language, the language of music! Once you’ve learn to play some basic chords you’ll be able to play hundreds of songs from your favorite musicians. So if you like Jimi Hendrix or Eric Clapton, play away till you can play their songs with passion! Please keep in mind that chord sounds on the electric guitar and the acoustic guitar do not sound the same, so match the guitar to the music style you’ll be playing. But remember, practice and experiment a lot. This will allow you to master not only the simpler chords but the more advanced chords as well.

Famous Microphones That Have Become Part of Vintage Microphones

October 25th, 2008 by tommyla3

The main job of the mic is to convert sound into an electrical signal. It has a large number of applications as in music production system, telephone, hearing aid, motion picture production, etc.

-RCA carbon type 1

-RCA KN-3A, MI-3045

-Bruno labs RV-3

There were a number of microphones which have made their marks over the last few decades. Some of the names went on to create history but now they are a part of the vintage microphones.

Earlier, microphones were known as transmitters. In 1978, Thomas Alva Edison made the first commercial microphone. It was a type of carbon microphone. Later, in Bell Laboratories in 1962, a new type of capacitor microphone was invented.

James Cannon of Cannon Electric Co. in Los Angeles, CA, was told to build up a connector for the mic. His creation was a 6 pin connector which later on became the prototype of P-type connector, which turned out to be an instantaneous success. 3 conductor connector for camera cable was made then which put Cannon plug to history from 1929 onwards.

-General Electric or Westinghouse carbon or condenser microphones

Microphones have undergone a lot of changes over the years. Some designs stayed and others became a part of vintage microphones. Microphone, popularly known as mike or mic, is one of the primary elements in an audio or music system.

-Turner model 51D

In 1962-1965 the electret mics got their diaphragm made of a metalized thin foil of mylar or teflon. Sony, in 1968, created the then finest electret condenser microphone. That too has now moved into vintage microphones.

-Amperite model R80L

-Western Electric carbon transmitter model 273

-Western Electric condenser housing model 9-A

The History & Development of Vintage Microphones

-Remler, Turner, or Jenkins-Adair condenser microphones

-Western Electric carbon transmitter model 369

Mason and Marshall of the Bell Laboratories made a blueprint of a tubular microphone in 1939. The design was such that it utilized a single element and acoustical tubes of different sizes. It helped in the pickup of directional music. The tubular design was the forerunner of the modern day mics.

Dynamic or condenser microphones were much smaller in size than the Siemens’ version of the cardioid mic. There was a constant effort made to reduce the size of the microphones to facilitate its use.

-Altec model 647

-RCA KB-1A, MI-11000

The early 1930s saw the movie industry trying out new technology to record musical scores. However, the range of microphones offered was low. In came the MGM Studios, in Culver City, CA, to try out the newly invented cardioid mic made by the Siemens Co, Germany. It was used to make “Naughty Marietta” with the likes of Jeanette McDonald and Nelson Eddy.

-American model D76

Electret condenser microphone is a part of the vintage microphones as it has a history dating back to 1928. It used polarized wax plates. Bogen offered this type commercially under the name Voltage Velotron. The WWII saw the development of wax electret mikes. The Japanese used it in their field devices. However, they did not become very popular due to their instability.

Mackie 808M Powered Mixer (Mono)

October 24th, 2008 by tommyla3

Mackie 808M Powered Mixer (Mono) This mixer is designed to run all night into brutally low impedances and sound clean even when driven hard. Mackie starts with a massive toroid transformer and 2 unusually large storage capacitors with 720 joules of energy storage capacity. In fact, the PPM power supply is so robust that it can run on as little as 80 volts at the end of a long, skinny extension cord during a brown-out. Then they add their Fast Recovery circuitry that reduces latching distortion so PPM Series mixers sound good even when driven well into clipping. Also included is an SCR crowbar circuit for speaker protection.

Finding Your Niche

Finding Your Niche

However, it can be difficult to break into a sport as a teenager. The recreational sports programs have become very competitive. Children are playing the same sports for three seasons a year as opposed to children playing three different sports a year. Some levels in the recreational programs have been raised to the levels of select or traveling leagues. If you are an average player, joining a team as a preteen or teen may be intimidating.

Music, on the other hand, offers many opportunities even for the preteen or teen that didn’t have an interest as a child. There are schools and music teachers who offer lessons for children and adults of any age. There are ’self-teaching’ keyboards and guitars which give basic instruction at an individual pace. Practicing an instrument can be done in the privacy of the home and builds confidence.

Everyone has their own niche; the place where they fit in and feel secure; a place to share interests and talents with others. Music may be that place!

Learning an instrument has many academic and social benefits. Music is linked to higher test scores, improved coordination, concentration levels, and study discipline. Other benefits include improved language, social, and memory skills.

During middle school and high school, the world of preteens and teens begin to grow. Bigger schools mean more acquaintances and opportunities. Preteens and teens start to separate from their childhood buddies and begin to make new friends with others who share the same interests. Music opens many doors including marching band, rock bands, jazz bands, plays, concerts, and competitions.
